Wilma Brookshire

Canton – Wilma Hyde Brookshire, 91, passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2020 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home.

Wilma was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and a daughter of the late Henry and Lucille Lanning Hyde.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harland James “Brook” Brookshire, who died in 2018; a grandson, Teddy        Wells, who died in 1986; a son-in-law, Buddy Rogers; and a sister, Faye Hyde Revis.  Wilma was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church since she was twelve years old.  She loved to quilt and enjoyed cooking for her family.

She is survived by three children, Karen Smith (Otis, Jr. “Bud”), Ginger Rogers and Steve Wells (Pam), all of Canton; two stepsons, Ronnie Brookshire (Belvia) of Canton and Paul Brookshire (Linda) of Rock Hill, South Carolina; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Due to the COVID-19 exposure and for the safety of everyone, a private family graveside service will be held with the Reverend Dr. Perry Brindley officiating.

Memorials may be made to Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 261 Dix Creek Road, Canton, NC or to one’s favorite charity.
