A memorial service honoring the lives of William "Bill" Vernon Ingram, Jr. and Vivian Watkins Ingram will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 12, 2021 in the chapel of Wells Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. following the service at the Wells Event Center.  Interment of Mr. and Mrs. Ingram will be held at Greenhill Cemetery prior to the memorial service.

William “Bill” Vernon Ingram Jr.

William “Bill” Vernon Ingram, Jr., 90, died on Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at Riverside Health and Rehabilitation Center in Danville, Virginia. He had been in declining health for the past several months.

Bill was born on January 19, 1930 in Goldsboro, NC. He was the son of the late William Vernon Ingram, Sr. and Sterling DeBruhl Ingram. He grew up in Greensboro, North Carolina and lived most of his adult life there. He later retired to the mountains of Waynesville, North Carolina and then on to Chinquapin, North Carolina.

Bill proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1950-1953. A Korean War veteran, he was deployed as a Petty Officer Third Class on the USS Bon Homme Richard and the USS Oriskany.

While traveling cross country, on leave from San Diego, he met the beautiful Vivian Sellars Watkins. After a whirlwind courtship, Bill and Vivian were married on July 26, 1952. She was to be his wife of 67 years.

In the 1970’s,  Bill co-founded Guilford Mechanical Services where he worked until his retirement at the age of 62.

Preceded in death by his wife, Vivian, Bill is survived by sons, Bill Ingram III, and his wife, Stacy, and Chris Ingram and his wife, Karen. In addition, he is survived by his grandchildren, Harrison, Chase, Marley and Matt. He will also miss the company of his surviving brother, Richard Ingram, and his wife, Laney.

Vivian Watkins Ingram

Vivian Watkins Ingram, a resident of Danville, Virginia, passed away on April 2, 2020 at the SECU Jim & Betsy Bryan Hospice Home of UNC Healthcare in Pittsboro, North Carolina.

Vivian was born in Lafourche Parrish, in the town of Raceland, Louisiana on August 5, 1932. She was the daughter of the late Marvin Daniel Watkins and Anne Elizabeth Watkins. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Bill Ingram Jr., her two sons, Bill Ingram III, and his wife Stacy, Chris Ingram, and his wife, Karen and four grandchildren, Harrison, Chase, Marley and Matt. She will miss the company of her sisters, Elizabeth Atkinson, Grey Lineweaver, Marty Prevost and Charlotte McChesney. She is predeceased by her brother, Dan Watkins Jr.

Vivian lived most of her life in North Carolina, growing up in the mountains of Waynesville, raising her family in Greensboro, retiring back to Waynesville and then to Chinquapin. She was best known for her courageous spirit, positive outlook and her love for her family. Vivian survived five bouts of cancer and was known by all who cared for her to be grateful, gracious and uncomplaining.

Throughout her life, Vivian, was an avid reader and well known to the library staff in each community in which she lived. When not reading, she enjoyed watching her grandchildren play sports.

She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend who will be greatly missed.
