William Ross

Waynesville, William Little Ross, 95, passed away on Saturday, November 27, 2021 at Autumn Care of Waynesville.

A native of Buncombe County, William was a son of the late Jacob Boyd Ross and Margaret Ellett Ross.  He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Neville, Jack and Gene Ross; sister, Beth R. Collins; and stepmother, Hattie Jones Ross.

William proudly served his country in the United States Navy and was the Town Manager of Waynesville for two years.  Following the position of Town Manager, he became the Director of Public Works and was later employed as a sales representative for Musco Utility Supply and Davis Meter & Supply.  He was a member of First Baptist Church of Waynesville since 1966.

William is survived by his wife of 70 years, Betty Leatherman Ross; two sons, Reverend Dr. William L. Ross, and his wife, Penny Morrison-Ross, of Marietta, Georgia, and Jack Ross, and his wife, Beth Holmes, of Canton; five grandchildren, William Ross, and his wife, Emily, Shea Ross-Smith, and her husband, John, Jacob Ross, and his wife, Gabby Lopez-Ross, Russell Tyler Ross and Carl Elwell; and four great-grandchildren, Jackson, Ellett, Ellis and John.

A private graveside service was held.
