Waynesville, William Ernest Culver, 93, passed away on Friday, October 4, 2019.

A native of Raleigh, North Carolina he was the of the late Willie and Elizabeth Johnson Culver.

William was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret B. Culver, who died June 13, 2019 along with two sisters, Claire Eikenberg and Anita Hager.  William was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Asheville and retired as a Nuclear Operator with Progress Energy.  He proudly served his country in the Navy retiring in 1976 as a Senior Chief Electronic Tech in the Submarine Service.  William began his service career joining the U.S. Army in 1944 and served 20 months and 4 days transferring to the Navy and serving 18 years and 4 months and continued in 1966 enlisting in the Fleet Reserve for an additional 10 years.

William is survived by his son, William E. Culver, Jr. and his wife, Juli, of Louisville, Colorado; grandchildren, Scott and Kaitlyn.  As well as a sister-law- Francis Godwin, of Swansboro; a special nephew, Steve Eikenberg, of Coopersville, Texas; and a niece Paige Pape, of Towson, Maryland; along with several other nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at noon on Monday, October 28, 2019 at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain.

The care of Mr. Culver has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Homes
