Waynesville, Willa Mae Kirkpatrick Teague, 89, passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2020.

Willa Mae was a lifelong resident of Haywood County. She was the daughter of the late James Robert and Estie Iowa Haynes Kirkpatrick.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Wilbur Joseph Teague who died in 2011, and two brothers, Clarence and Wayne Kirkpatrick.

She was a member of White Oak Baptist Church.  In her younger years, Willa Mae was an outdoor enthusiast.  She enjoyed fishing, gardening, and tending her flowers.  As a mother, Willa Mae was selfless and full of love.  She placed a great emphasis on education, by making sure her children arrived safely from Walter’s Dam to school each day.  Willa Mae also was an avid sports enthusiast and enjoyed watching Pat Summitt’s Tennessee Vols basketball team.

Willa Mae is survived by two daughters, Cathy Clark, and her husband, Darrell, of Waynesville and Judy Morrison, and her husband, Steve, of Asheville; two sons, David Teague, and his wife, Freida, of Canton and Jimmy Teague, and his wife, Edna, of Waynesville; one sister, Peggy Hunter, and her husband, Phil, of White Oak; two sisters-in-law’s, Dorothy Kirkpatrick and Doris Bramlett, both of Waynesville; one brother, Bruce Kirkpatrick, of Waynesville; six grandchildren; Tracy Carver, Crystal Green (Tony), Melody Rose, Kelsey Ferguson (Nathan), Nathan Clark (Jenny), and Natalie Clark (Clint); six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would also like to give a special thanks to Arrowhead Cove and Silver Bluff Village for their love and care for Willa Mae.

Private graveside services will be held at White Oak Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Gary Putnam officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the White Oak Baptist Church Cemetery Fund: 4035 White Oak Road, Waynesville, NC 28785 or to the Fines Creek Volunteer Fire Department: 244 Fines Creek Road, Clyde, NC 28721.
