Waynesville, Wiley “Gene” Parker, 86, passed away on Sunday, November 29, 2020 at Autumn Care of Waynesville.
Gene was a native of Macon County and was the son of the late Jahue and Minnie Nichols Parker. He was also preceded in death by four sisters and three brothers.
He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and was employed by Champion Paper prior to retiring in 1992 from DuPont as a supervisor in the Control Lab. He was a member of Clyde Church of God. Gene was a handyman who enjoyed traveling and spending time with his grandchildren.
Gene is survived by his wife of 65 years, Rachel Thompson Parker; son C. Randall Parker, and his wife, Judy, of Yakima, Washington; and two grandchildren, Zachary and Belle Parker.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 4, 2020, in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend C. Randall Parker officiating. Entombment will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park Mausoleum with military honors. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 3, 2020, at the funeral home. Due to Covid-19, all protocols and mandates are requested to be followed, including masks. The service will be live streamed and will be accessible through Gene’s obituary on Wells Funeral Home website to facilitate the ongoing focus on community safety and health.
