Wilene Marshall

On, May 30, 2021, Wilene Marshall, loving wife and mother of three children, passed away at age 93, in Waynesville, North Carolina.

Wilene was born on November 13, 1927 in Arcadia, Florida to Zebulon Vance and Sadie Rae (Tedder) Dyson. She received her Registered Nursing degree from Charity Hospital in New Orleans in 1948 and was proud to begin her RN career as a U.S. Public Health Nurse at the Choctaw Nation Hospital in Talihina, Oklahoma. On January 19, 1950, she married Jimmie Marshall. They had two sons, Gene and Jon, and one daughter, Gale, in Orlando, Florida. Wilene worked as an Emergency Room nurse at Florida Hospital for 25 years and later moved to LaBelle, Florida where she worked as an Emergency Room nurse at what is now Bayfront Health, in Punta Gorda. The Wilene D. Marshall Scholarship, administered by the Chahta Foundation, was established in 2016 by her children, and provides full tuition assistance for eligible Choctaw Nation students pursuing a Registered Nursing degree or certification.

Wilene was an active member at the Eastside Baptist Church in LaBelle, Florida, and attended the Francis Cove United Methodist Church, in Waynesville, North Carolina. Wilene was a woman of faith and known for her kind and compassionate spirit.

Wilene was preceded in death by her father, Zebulon, her mother, Sadie, her sister Lois Carastro, her brother-in-law Joseph Carastro, and her husband, Jimmie. She is survived by her three children, Gene (Becky), Jon (Roxann), and Gale; her nephew, Dr. Joseph Carastro (Nancy); niece, Barbara Lowder (Stan); four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A family service will be held at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Gotha, Florida.
