Thomas Miles, Sr.

Arden, Thomas Walter Miles, Sr, age 92, passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2020 at Mission Hospital.

A native of Nashville, he was a son of the late Campbell Gentry and Lilie McClure Miles.  He was also preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Janet Ada Douglass Miles; son, Thomas Miles, Jr.; and his brother, Campbell Miles, Jr.  Walter answered his Nation’s call to serve as a young man in the U. S. Army.  After serving, he attended Vanderbilt University and earned a Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering.  His professional career was spent working at The Mead Corporation and Tampa Electric Company.  Walter was an active member of Kiwanis for almost 50 years; and was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Churches where he served the church and Kiwanis in many different capacities.

Walter is survived by his two daughters, Elizabeth Eltinge, and her husband, John, of Oakton, Virginia and Janet Miller of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan; one son, Howard Miles, and his wife, Teresa, of Georgetown, Kentucky; daughter-in-law, Barbara Miles, of Morristown, Tennessee; one sister, Mary Alice Miles of Nashville, Tennessee; eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at a later date.

The care of Mr. Miles has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Homes.
