A native of Linton, Indiana, he was a son of the late Richard and Evelyn Ruth Hastings.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Steven Chad Hastings.  Tom spent much of his life in Indiana.  A graduate of Linton High School in 1965, he earned his bachelor’s degree in history from Indiana University.  Tom transitioned into his father’s business and became owner and operator of Hastings Appliances.  Upon retirement, Tom spent much of his time reading, taking long walks and listening to classical music.

Tom is survived by two sisters, Ann Hastings Johnson, and husband, Sherell, of Waynesville and Mary Hastings Kelly, and husband, Scott, of Washougal, Washington; one sister-in-law, June Maybaugh Hastings, of Alpharetta, Georgia; nieces, Julie Johnson Roknich, and husband, Nick, of Bradenton, Florida, Jill Hastings Howgate, and husband, Jamie, of Alpharetta, Georgia, Dr. Kristy Kelly, and husband, Chris Chu, of Eugene, Oregon; nephew, Thomas Scott Johnson, and wife, Cecilia, of Maggie Valley; and special cousins, Tanya, Bruce, Larissa and Wes Yates, all of New Palestine, Indiana.

Tom was a gentle and kind soul who was always willing to lend a helping hand to friend and family.  He was deeply loved and will be so very missed.

In accordance with Tom’s wishes, there will be no funeral service.  It was also his wish to donate his body to medical research of Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP), a rare disorder he valiantly fought the last years of his life.
