Ruby Devlin

Canton – Ruby Lee Smathers Devlin, 85, of the Dutch Cove community, passed away on Sunday, September 22, 2019 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home.

A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was a daughter of the late Willis and Louella Sanford Smathers.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Clifford Devlin, who died in 1995 and a brother, Willie Roe Smathers.  Ruby was a member of Dutch Cove Baptist Church and enjoyed her craft works, tending her flower gardens and she loved Doves.

She is survived by two daughters, Ruby Charlene McElroy and husband, John, and Peggy Darlene Barrett and husband, Michael, all of Canton; two sisters, Hilda Juanita Pinkerton and Mildred Webb, both of Canton; one brother, Melvin Smathers of Spartanburg, South Carolina; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Lloyd Fish officiating.  Burial will follow at Morning Star Community Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 12:30          until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
