Loving Husband and Father

Waynesville, Roy Lee Jenkins, 85, went to his Heavenly home unexpectedly on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at Mission Hospital.  His family is deeply saddened by his sudden passing.

A lifelong resident of Haywood County, Roy was born on February 6, 1938 to the late Elmer and Fannie Jenkins Reeves.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers; a sister; the mother of his children, Edith Haney Dockery; great-granddaughter, Kaida Hall; and special friend, Charlotte Caldwell.  He was a fun-loving Christian man who grew up in the White Oak/Cataloochee community and loved to tell stories of his childhood.  Until his retirement, Roy was a carpenter and handyman by trade.  He helped Edith with the Girl Scout camping trips for 19 years.  He loved fishing in his younger days, riding water rides and roller coasters, and more recently in his retirement loved socializing at Hardee’s over his morning coffee and biscuits and gravy.  He doted on his little dog Speedy who kept him company in his recent years.

Roy leaves behind his children, Roy Michael Jenkins (Nancy), of Canton, Lisa McClure (Larry), of Pickens, SC, Meredith Jones (George), of Holly Ridge, NC and Patsy Mintz (Charles), of Canton; sister, Evelyn Jenkins, of Lincolnton, NC three grandchildren, Preston Hall (Jenna), of Mililani, HI, Casey Chang (Daniel), of Jacksonville, NC and Dustin Henline, of Pickens, SC; and four great-grandchildren, Riley Gabler, of Jacksonville, NC, James Hall, of Central, SC, Jeannette Hall, of Central, SC and Kaizen Hall, of Mililani, HI.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 5, 2023 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Matthew Pressley officiating.  Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 4, 2023 at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.

The care of Mr. Jenkins has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
