Roxie Brown

Waynesville, Roxie Smith Brown, age 92, passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2021 at Haywood Regional Medical Center.

A native of Haywood County, she was a daughter of the late Roe and Dollie Greene Smith.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Reeves Brown, who died in 2004; and her son, Ronnie Brown who died in 2015.  Roxie was a member of Hemphill Baptist Church.

Roxie was a homemaker who also ran a booth for many years at Fugate’s Flea Market in Maggie Valley.  She enjoyed word puzzles and loved playing board games, especially Scrabble and Aggravation.  Roxie was an excellent cook and baker, and she loved the Lord and her family very much.

She is survived by one daughter, Janet Marlene Messer, and her husband, Bobby; two sons, Robert Marvin Brown, and his wife, Yvonne, and Bruce Brown, all of Waynesville; a daughter-in-law, Jessica Brown; three grandchildren, Heather Terwillegar (Matt), Ryan Brown and Andrew Messer (Bethany), three great-grandchildren, Maddie Terwillegar, Ian Terwillegar and Emma Hansen-Brown; several nieces and nephews and many other special friends and family who called her "Nanny", "Mountain Momma", "Momma Brown", "Mrs. Roxie", and "Aunt Roxie".

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 20, 2021 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Dewayne Rathbone officiating.  Visitation will be held prior to the service from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  Burial will follow at Brown Family Cemetery.  The services for Mrs. Brown will be livestreamed and can be found in her obituary at www.wellsfuneralhome.com.
