Candler

Candler – Roger Thomas “Tommy” Ferguson, age 79, passed away on Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at his home, surrounded by his family.

Tommy was a native of Haywood County and a son of the late Ned Randolph and Mary Penland Ferguson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Donald, and a sister, Susie Burris (David). Tommy loved classic car collecting, going to the lake, and traveling with his wife, Peggy. He was a member of Pole Creek Baptist Church. He and Peggy were also the owners of a local business that began as Ferguson Auto Sales, and later grew into The Van Shop and Mountain Adaptive. Tommy is remembered by all who knew him for his ever-present smile, his kind and generous nature, and his desire to help others. Peggy and his family were his greatest love on this earth, and his faith in Christ was his steadfast guide. His primary goal in life was to serve Christ through serving others. He succeeded in that goal.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Peggy Stamey Ferguson; one daughter, Amy Moore (Rick) of Mills River; one son, Brett Ferguson (Charlotte) of Candler; three brothers, David Ferguson (Polly), Ken Ferguson (Ursula), and Phillip Ferguson (Shirley); five grandchildren, Kylie McCurry (Taylor), Cole Anderson, Kloyee Anderson, Isaac Ferguson and Lee Ferguson; two bonus granddaughters, Taylor Garren (Tyler) and Malia Moore; and three great-grandchildren, Lucy Grace McCurry, Mavrick Garren and Skylar Garren.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 30, 2021 at Pole Creek Baptist Church with the Reverend Ben Heise officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at 3:00 p.m., at the church. A private burial will be held.
