Rhonda Haney

July 23, 1961 — June 16, 2022

Waynesville

Waynesville, Rhonda Yvonne Haney, pastor, sister, godmother, aunt, great aunt, GiGi, coach, and friend, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 16, 2022.

A native of Haywood County, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Richard Washington Haney and Juanita Sutton Cook.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her fiancé, Jared Bullock, who passed in 2014, and her brother, Michael Haney.  Rhonda brought sunshine and order into our lives and at times, family and friends needed it.  There were other occasions, Rhonda would bring complete chaos, fun, and games.  But no matter what the circumstance, Jesus Christ was the center of her life.  Rhonda was blessed to touch so many lives in her time here on earth.  She was your biggest supporter and yet would also keep you grounded.  The one thing Rhonda was adamant all her friends and family knew, was the love of her savior, Jesus.  She lived every day to the fullest, always excited to go on an adventure.  For 27 years, Rhonda taught 8th-grade history.  Most of those years were spent at Waynesville Middle School, where she also served as an athletic director and coach for basketball and softball.  Rhonda was an ordained pastor, currently serving Franklin New Life Church.  Prior to Franklin, she served as the associate pastor at Lakeview Church-The Nazarene.  Rhonda always told her life-long friend, LuLu, “My main goal in life is to see Jesus”.  She is now at peace, worshiping her merciful God.

Rhonda is survived by two sisters, Karen Diaz and Jackie Perez, both of Waynesville; sister-in-law, Leigh Haney, of Waynesville; brother, Jack Cook, of Asheville; nieces, Maria Robbins (Kyler) and Kisha Hall (Michael), of Waynesville; nephew, A.J. Perez (Sandra), of Maggie Valley; two godsons, Joshua Ray (Savanah), of Shelbyville, Tennessee and Steven Ray (Ronda), of Waynesville; life-long friend, LuLu Ray, of Waynesville; and Rhonda’s life-long buddy, friend, and great-niece, Michellbie “Pud” Robbins; as well as many beloved great-nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 19, 2022, in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home.  Entombment will follow the service at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park Mausoleum.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 18, 2022, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Crisis Care Kits, c/o Lakeview Church of the Nazarene, 24 Nazarene Way, Waynesville, NC 28785.
