Canton – Ralph Baxter Singleton, 84, passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2020 at Haywood Regional Medical Center.
Ralph was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and one of three triplet sons born to the late Dennis and Katherine Goodson Singleton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline “Polly” Inman Singleton, who died in 1995; a sister, Velma Cain, who died in 2019; two brothers Ray Singleton, who died in 2013 and Roy Singleton, who died in 2017; and an infant daughter, Katherine Singleton, who died in 1962. He was a graduate of Bethel High School and later joined the United States Navy serving on the USS Newport News. Many will remember Ralph, along with his late brothers, Ray and Roy, as the Singleton triplets. As with much of their lives together, Ralph and his brothers worked on the family farm together. They began working at Ecusta Paper together and they all three joined the United States Navy together serving our nation honorably. Later, the brothers returned to the beloved Haywood County to raise their families and worked at Champion Paper where they each retired with over 30 years of service. Upon their discharge from the Navy, Ralph, Ray and Roy each ordered a 1957 Chevrolet in three different colors from Murphy Chevrolet, which were well-known in the Bethel Community.
He is survived by a daughter, Dianne Singleton Russell (Darian) of Acworth, Georgia; and two sons, Chip Singleton (Patty) of Bethel and Dennis William Singleton (Tammy) of Greer, South Carolina; four grandsons and one granddaughter.
A private graveside service was held for the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials made be made to Haywood Healthcare Foundation (Hospice),
