Clyde

Clyde, Phillip Roland Chambers, age 73, peacefully passed away on Saturday, January 1, 2022, at Silver Bluff Village after a period of declining health.

A native of Haywood County, he was a son of the late Ted and Louise Davis Chambers.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Harold Miller, of Central, South Carolina.  From a young age, it was clear that sports would serve an influential role in Phillip’s life.  He received a scholarship to play baseball for the Catamounts of Western Carolina University.  At one point in time, Phillip played for four softball teams and Asheville’s Old Timer baseball league.  As a husband and father, Phillip was always present, supportive, and willing to serve in any capacity.  He was an avid Tarheel fan and loved any opportunity to get outside and exercise.  For 38 years he served the U.S Postal Service as a mail clerk and was an active member of Long’s Chapel United Methodist Church.

Phillip is survived by his wife of 32 years, Karen Cooke Chambers, of Clyde; his beloved aunt and second mother, Barbara Jean McClure, of Laurinburg, North Carolina; three daughters, Cami Miller, of South Carolina, Kristin Richards, of Florida, and Meredith Chambers, of Maggie Valley; son, Michael Chambers, of Clyde; brother, Charles Chambers, and his wife Gwen, of Waynesville; sister, Debbie Chambers, of Weaverville; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at Long’s Chapel United Methodist Church in the Community Room with Reverend Chris Westmoreland officiating.  The family will receive friends from 2:30 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. in the Community Room at the church.

Memorials may be made to Maple Leaf Adult Respite, 63 Elmwood Way, Suite C100, Waynesville, NC 28786; Silver Bluff Village, 100 Silver Bluff Dr., Canton, NC 28716 or Haywood County Animal Shelter, 453 Jones Cove Rd., Clyde, NC 28721.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to all the staff of Silver Bluff Village and Maple Leaf Adult Respite for the exceptional care he received.

The care of Mr. Chambers has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
