Clyde – Newton Richard Breece, 84, passed away on Friday, February 7, 2020 at his residence.

A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Milford and Flora Hendrix Breece.  He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Gerald and Eugene Breece.  Newton was a United States Army veteran serving during the Korean war.  He retired from Champion International in 1995 with 39½ years of service and was a member of Grandview Baptist Church.  Fishing and boating at Fontana Lake and Lake Keowee were fun times for everyone in the family.  Newton was a jack of all trades repairing anything and working outside in the yard.  He especially enjoyed scoping out flea markets on the weekends.  In the last few years Christmas has become a very special time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Sybil Roberts Breece; a daughter, Beverly Breece Ledbetter and husband, Steve, of Cleveland, Tennessee; three sons, Charles Breece and wife, Rita Caldwell Breece of Anderson, South Carolina, Harold Breece of Candler and Michael Breece and wife, Rita King Breece of Taylors, South Carolina; a sister, Freda Hooper of Waynesville; two brothers, James Breece and wife, Joan, and Carroll Breece; five grandchildren, Alexander Breece, Ashley McCabe and husband, Jimmy; Paul Ledbetter, Jennifer Ramsey and husband, Brian, and Stefanie Kauffman and husband, Paul; and five great-grandchildren; Cameron, Preston, Zachary, Brooklyn and Connor as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 15, 2020 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Dr. T. David Phillips officiating.  Inurnment will follow at Garrett Hillcrest Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
