Michael Kennedy

Michael T Kennedy, 54, of Waynesville, NC passed away at home on the 8th of May 2019. He was dearly loved by all and will be deeply missed.  He is survived by his loving daughter’s Danielle, Amanda, Brittany, their mother Tracy, adoring granddaughter Chloe Isabella, and best friend and son-in-law Preston Roberts.  Michael is also survived by his loving and devoted parents Joan and Bill Kennedy of Tipperary Ireland, brother’s Liam and James and sisters Maura and Kate. Additionally, Michael has numerous relatives and friends in the US and Ireland that are mourning his loss.

Michael was born in New York but moved to Ireland with his family as a teenager. He attended St. Joseph’s Secondary School in Cahir, County Tipperary, Ireland and as a young man he loved to hunt and fish with his dad, Uncle Gus and brothers.  Michael loved to help his neighbor’s, milking cows, driving tractors, fixing machinery, and babysitting.

Michael returned to NY as a young adult and in later years moved to Florida and finally to the mountains of North Carolina, where he continued to hunt and fish and help raise his three beautiful daughters.  Michael was a loving father, friend, son and brother and loved to make people laugh. A light in the darkness for many, to say he had a heart of gold is an understatement. His favorite pastime was chasing his granddaughter around the house and having morning dates at the waffle house with her.

Michael was an intelligent and talented man a machinist by training, a ‘fixer’ by nature, there was not a piece of equipment that Mike could not repair. He found jubilation in working hard and loved to ‘outwork the young bucks’. Warm, and loving, and full of life, dear Michael we miss you already.

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May Michael’s soul and the souls of all the faithfully departed through the mercy of God rest in peace. Amen

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 16, 2019 in the sanctuary of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Father Richard Sutter officiating.  Burial and Committal Service will take place at St. John the Evangelist Church cemetery following the service.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on May 15, 2019 at Wells Funeral Home in Waynesville.
