Massie Osborne

Clyde

Clyde – Carter Massie Osborne, 91, went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 7, 2020.

Massie was a son of the late Dr. Henry Blount Osborne and Maude Nelson Osborne and a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Henry Blount Osborne, Jr. and William Osborne and two infant brothers.  In his youth, Massie was awarded numerous awards in farming and agriculture.  Among them was the American Farmers Award where he traveled to Kansas City, Kansas to receive this award.  After his military service, Massie settled back home to manage the family dairy for life.  He was a graduate of Clyde High School.  After high school, he was drafted into the United States Army serving in Korea in the 151st Army Corps of Engineers.  At home, Massie served 30 years on the ASCS (Agriculture Stabilization Committee) and served as a member of the Board of Directors with Haywood Electric Membership Corporation for 17 years.  He was an active and a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Clyde.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Joan McElroy Osborne; a son, Thomas Osborne and wife, Sandy, of Clyde; one daughter, Penny Robinson and husband, Derrick, of Clyde; two sisters, LouAnne Cogburn of Canton and Ernestine Parton of Waynesville; one sister-in-law, Maxine Osborne; and six grandchildren, Danny Osborne and wife, Sarah, Taylor Osborne, Makenzie Osborne, Spenser Peterson and husband, Brad, Cameron Mattingly-Robinson and husband, Donnie and Madison Robinson.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2020 at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens with the Reverend Charles Dean officiating.

Due to the COVID-19, the family requests that all attendees wear a mask at the service.
