Mabel Justice

June 9, 1927 — March 27, 2019

Waynesville

Waynesville, Mabel Louise Justice died February 27, 2019 with her beloved grandson, Jesse, by her side. She was born June 9, 1927 in Waynesville, North Carolina.

Mabel was preceded in death by the love of her life, Bill Justice; her parents Roy and Juanita Medford; and her brother Billy Medford.  She is survived by her daughter Sandy James and husband Koosh of Sun City, AZ; her beloved grandson, Jesse Johnson of Phoenix, AZ; brother Thad Medford and wife, Vanita; sister n’ law Virginia Medford; son n’ law Bob Johnson; brothers n’ law David Justice and James Justice; sister n’ law Kathleen Hipps.  She has numerous nieces and nephews who she was very fond of.

Bill and Mabel Justice were married April 20, 1946 for 64 years until Bill passed away in 2010.  They started their marriage in North Carolina, moving briefly to Virginia, then a permanent move to Washington state where they lived until retirement.  They spent their retirement years here in Waynesville.  Mabel was a resident at Haywood Lodge Assisted Living since 2012.

Mabel was an outstanding seamstress making many beautiful clothes for family members.  She and Bill loved going to Bluegrass Festivals while living in the northwest.  Mabel loved to buck dance to bluegrass music.  Many of their Washington friends were also from North Carolina, so they had lots of happy times there.  She loved to go to the rifle range and hunt with Bill.  He used to brag how well she could shoot.  The two loves of her life were her husband Bill and grandson Jesse.  She was very proud and excited to attend his college graduation in Phoenix.

There will be a Celebration of Life later in May.  Announcement of the date will be forthcoming.  In closing, the family would like to thank the staff at Haywood Lodge Assisted Living for the excellent care and compassion provided to Mabel.

The care of Mabel has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Homes, and an online memorial register is available at “Obituaries” at www.wellsfuneralhome.com
