Lucy Darleen Deitz, 60, of Asheville, NC passed away February 12, 2023.  She is survived by her wife, Karen Brinkley and her two dogs, Abby and Rudy.

A native of Canton, she was the daughter of the late Roy Deitz and Frances West Deitz.  Lucy was a firm believer in the Lord Jesus Christ.  She was a 1980 graduate of Pisgah High School and attended Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, NC where she received a degree in accounting.  A successful entrepreneur, Lucy had lived in and around the Greenville, SC area for around 35 years.  She had resided in Asheville, NC for the last four years.

The awards Lucy received in high school were memorable moments where she was voted, Most Courteous.  She was president of many clubs and was on homecoming court for two years.  She was awarded best fielder in softball for two years in a row.  Her name or picture was constantly on the front sports section of the Mountaineer newspaper. Lucy was a natural athlete, if she threw a side armed throw and you caught it, your hand was going to burn.

Also surviving are an older sister, Debby Deitz of Marietta, SC; older brother, Jeff Deitz of Hampton, VA; nephew, Mark Parris and niece, Tammy Parris Ensley both of Canton; niece, Wendy Deitz and Tara Deitz Schwartz and nephew, Jason Deitz all of Hampton, VA and nine great nieces and nephews. Lucy also leaves her aunt and uncle, Rosemary and George Hutchins; numerous cousins; Pauline Brinkley who was more like a mother to her and dear friends, Debra Padilla and Edith Sherlin.

A celebration of life will be held for friends and family in the spring.
