Lake Junaluska - Lucille Bellamy, 92, passed away peacefully, in the presence of her daughters, on October 31, 2022.

Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, Reverend James S. Bellamy, who died in 1996, her father William Ross Morrison; mother, Annis Ervin Morrison; sister, Matoka M. Campbell; son-in-law, Bill Hargett; brother's-in-law, Jennings Campbell and Everett Bellamy; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Bellamy Gray; and nephew, Ross Ervin Campbell.

Lucille was born on July 14, 1930 in Statesville, North Carolina.  She graduated from Statesville High School in 1948 and later from Greensboro College with degrees in Home Economics and Science.  After college, she taught Home Economics at Boyden High School in Salisbury, North Carolina.  Lucille worked as a home economist at Nashville Gas Company in Tennessee after marrying James Bellamy and while her husband was in seminary.  Lucille and James moved back to North Carolina and served at numerous churches in Western North Carolina including Lenior, Claremont, Lake Junaluska, Charlotte, Winston Salem, Asheville, and Kannapolis.

She returned to college and got her teacher certification changed to K-4 at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte when James was serving churches in Charlotte.  After that, she taught in several elementary school districts in Western North Carolina.

Lucille and James retired to Lake Junaluska in 1991.  Over the years, Lucille has been active in church and community work.  She was a charter member of the Haywood Community Chorus.

She is survived by her children, Zanetta B. Hargett and Teresa B. Liner (Tommy); grandchildren Erin McGuire (Dwayne), Austin Hargett (Sarah); great-grandchildren, Silas Hargett and Raimi McGuire; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at Long’s Chapel United Methodist Church with Bishop Kenneth H. Carter, Jr., Reverend Donna Daley Gaither, and Reverend Betsy G. Caudill officiating.  Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Statesville at 4:00 p.m.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. prior to the service in the Community Room.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lake Junaluska Annual Fund, P.O. Box 67, Lake Junaluska, NC 28745, Long’s Chapel United Methodist Church, 133 Old Clyde Road. Waynesville, NC 28785 or to Haywood Hospice & Palliative Care, 13 Haywood Office Park Suite 107, Waynesville, NC 28785.

The care of Mrs. Bellamy has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Homes of Waynesville.
