Lojaun Cooper

Waynesville, Lojaun Galloway Cooper, 97, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 20, 2020 at her home.

Lojaun was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, Marion H. Cooper; her parents, Wade M. Galloway and Eula N. Galloway; and her siblings Terry, Paul, and Wade, Jr. Galloway and Faye G. Hooper.  Lojaun grew up in Cullowhee, North Carolina.  She received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Western Carolina University.  She was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church of Waynesville.  Lojaun was a former president of the United Methodist Women’s Group in her early years and was very active in educational and community groups.  She spent her adulthood as an educator teaching English at WTHS and as a guidance counselor at WTHS and Tuscola High School. Lojaun later became an educational counselor at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.  She loved encouraging young people to reach their potential through higher education.

Those left to cherish her memory are her two loving daughters Sandra Owen (Bill) and Janet Tingle (Ron); her beloved grandchildren, Trisha Ponder, Erin, Chris (Liz), and William Owen; her great-grandchildren Kristen Singleton (Nathan), Zane and Avery Ponder, and Cooper Owen; and her great-great-granddaughter Ensley Singleton.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Monday, January 27, 2020 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Keith Turman officiating.  Following the service, a reception will follow at Wells Events & Reception Center.  A private interment will be held at Bon-A-Venture cemetery.   The family will receive friends from 11:00 until service time at the funeral home and also at the reception following the service.

The family sends deep appreciation and love to Mary Arrington and her Care Angels, especially: Tresia Arrington, Martha Wyatt, Bobbi Wynn, Janie Conard, Regina Sheehan, Shirley Cagle, and Claudia Trantham.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Lojaun’s honor to First United Methodist Church, Middle School Afterschool Program, PO Box 838, Waynesville, NC 28786 or Waynesville Rotary Club Foundation, PO Box 1590, Waynesville, NC 28786.

The care of Mrs. Cooper has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Homes.
