Laverne Kuehn

Cassie LaVerne Kuehn, age 89, of the Crabtree Community of Clyde, passed away on Thursday, September 25, 2014 at her residence. She was a native of Rapides Parish, Louisiana, but resided in Haywood County for the last 20 years and was the daughter of the late Steve Columbus and Maurene Lattice Roaten Laird. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Bonnie Morgan; and her brother, Granville Laird. She received a Master's of Science Degree in Education from the University of Central Arkansas. LaVerne was a Career Education Specialist in Pulaski County, Arkansas, and was an instructor at the University of Central Arkansas. She was an honorary member of the Propeller Club of American Merchant Marine and also received leadership awards from Ohio University and General Electric. She is survived by her husband of 73 years, Reverend J.A. Kuehn, Sr.; two daughters, Ginger Kuehn Lang and her husband Dr. Richard Lang; and Peggy Kuehn Touchet all of Crabtree; two sons, Jere Kuehn and his wife Melinda of Sylva, and Steve Kuehn of Crabtree; nine grandchildren, Zachary Wilcox and his wife Michal; Erin Touchet; Eli Touchet and his partner Elizabeth Kobetz; Joel Kuehn and his wife Erin; Matthew Kuehn and his wife Jeanette; Seth Kuehn; Cassie Kuehn; Gage Kuehn; Chance Kuehn and his wife Kylie; eight great-grandchildren, Zuzu, Hudson, Rafe and Grady Wilcox; Avery Touchet; Salem and Tannix Kuehn; Stevie Kuehn; and a nephew, Laird Morgan. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 28, 2014 at Rock Springs Baptist Church, of which she was a member, with Reverend Chance Kuehn officiating. Burial will follow after at Upper Crabtree Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
