Joyce Howell

Joyce King Howell, age 83, of Johnson Drive died on Thursday, April 28, 2011, at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. A native of Yancey County, she was the daughter of the late Riley and Cora McIntosh King. She was a member of Canton First Baptist Church. Joyce graduated from Tusculum College in Greenville, TN and was a retired school teacher with the Haywood County Schools. She taught a total of 43 years. She served as a member of the Haywood County Board of Education from 1992 to 2000. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Royce L. Howell; two sons, Randal Lee Howell and his wife, Angie, of Canton and Douglas Lynn Howell and his wife, Krys, of Pensacola, FL; and three grandchildren, Cameron Howell of Duncan, SC, Logan Howell and Madison Howell of Pensacola, FL. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 1, 2011, at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Matthew Pruett officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Yancey County. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The family wishes to thank Marcy Coman Scott and the staff at Silver Bluff Nursing Home for their exceptional care.
