Waynesville

Waynesville, Josephine Ewart Pace, 83, passed away on Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at Mission Memorial Campus.

Josephine was a lifelong resident of Haywood County.  She was the daughter of the late Lawson and Ida Franklin Ewart. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Shane Messer.

She was lovingly known as “Granny” and would work two jobs to provide for her family. Josephine would often say she felt like a teenager, “16 and holding”.  She loved flowers and flea markets.  Josephine loved dancing anywhere music was played, especially square dancing and clogging with the J. Creek Cloggers at the Stompin’ Ground, Mills River, Jacky’s Barn and area nursing homes.  She loved bluegrass, especially the “Orange Blossom Special”.

Josephine is survived by her husband of 26 years, Ronald Pace, of Canton; two daughters, Jo Ann Mathis, and her husband, Ronald, of Waynesville, Linda Mitchell, and her husband, Larry, of Leicester; three sons, Jack Caldwell, and his wife, Susan, and Roger Dale Caldwell, and his wife, Glenda, of Waynesville, and Ned Junior Caldwell, and his wife, Donna, of Canton; one sister, Nell Ewart; one brother, Jarvis Ewart; 13 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 2, 2020 in the chapel of Wells Funeral Home in Waynesville.  Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.  Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Candler.
