Joseph Bruce Kirkpatrick

Waynesville, Joseph Bruce Kirkpatrick, age 88, passed away on Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at Mission Memorial Campus.

A native of Haywood County, he was a son of the late Jim and Estie Haynes Kirkpatrick.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Vivian Gunter Kirkpatrick, who died in 2012; brothers, Clarence and Wayne Kirkpatrick; sister, Willa Mae Teague; brother-in-law, Wilbur Teague; and a granddaughter, Leah Kirkpatrick.  Bruce proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.  He retired from Little Champion with 35 years of service.  He enjoyed socializing, and especially loved supporting Tuscola High School sports teams.  Bruce enjoyed meeting up with his friends at Ammons and Clyde’s restaurants.  He was an avid fisherman; and was a caregiver to his wife and his father.

Bruce is survived by his daughter Diana Kirkpatrick, and her companion Bill Wood; two sons, Alan Kirkpatrick, and his wife, Joyce and Rick Kirkpatrick, and his wife, Jonnie Sue; sister, Peggy Hunter, and her husband, Phil; sister-in-law, Dorothy Kirkpatrick; four grandchildren, Blake Kirkpatrick, and his wife, Samantha, Cassie Maynor, and her husband, Dustin, Cody Corn, and his wife, Sarah, Jesse Corn, and his wife, Amber; two great-grandchildren, Camren Corn and Skylar Corn; and special friends, Ronnie Forrester, and his wife, Judy, Darlene Crain, and her husband, Lonnie, Helen Clampitt, and Bruce McElroy.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 10, 2021, in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Jimmy Moore officiating.  Burial will follow at Fines Creek Baptist Church cemetery.  The family will receive from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Haywood Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Activity Department, 516 Wall Street, Waynesville, NC 28786.
