Johnny Conner

Waynesville, Johnny Lee Conner, age 75, passed away on Monday, May 3, 2021 at Mission Hospital.

A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Herman and Ruby Gunter Conner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Gerald Conner. Johnny proudly served his country in the United States  Army and the North Carolina National Guard, 211 MP Company.  While serving in the National Guard, he was called up to serve in Desert Shield and stayed through Desert Storm.  Johnny retired as Sergeant after 20 years of service.

He was employed by Champion International in the steam plant for 24 years. Some of Johnny’s favorite hobbies included fishing, hunting, woodworking, digging ginseng and old cars. He loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Johnny is survived by his wife, of 52 years, Linda Mull Conner; daughter, Angie Conner (Ken Neal); son, Todd Conner; a sister, Cathy Lowdermilk (Kent); sisters-in-law, Shirley and Kay Conner; four brothers, Ricky Conner, Dean Conner, Danny Conner (Tonuia) and Clyde Conner (Deb); six grandchildren, Kristen Mashburn (Blake Carpenter), Briana Mashburn (Jacob Hollifield), Isis Conner, Teran Conner (Haylee), Jason and Timber Conner; and three great-grandchildren, Blaze Carpenter, Charlie Mashburn, and Roselyn Conner (due in June).

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 6, 2021 at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville with the Reverend Kent Lowdermilk officiating, military rites will follow the service. The family will receive friends one hour prior at the funeral home.
