John Wilkins

Canton, John Wilkins, age 79, passed away on Sunday, April 27, 2014 at his residence. A native of Robeson County, he was the son of the late Roy Clarence and Ruby Jones Wilkins and was also preceded in death by a brother, James Wilkins. He was a US Army veteran, having served as part of the 11th Airborne Division during the Korean Conflict and later worked in construction. He attended the Baptist church and was an AA member for 31 years. John enjoyed living in the mountains and loved to travel across the Blue Ridge Parkway. He is survived by his fiancée of 19 years, Helen Boone, of Candler; a daughter, Rosanne Hand and her husband, Jeffrey, of Goodlettsville, Tennessee; a son, John Anthony Wilkins and his wife, Patricia, of Nolensville, Tennessee; one brother, Marvin C. Wilkins and his wife, Jane, of Dunn, North Carolina; ex-wife, Dorothy Wilkins; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Bruce Cayton officiating.
