John Chandler

Canton – John Herman Chandler, 88, passed away on Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at Haywood Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

John was a native of Wendover, Kentucky but had resided in Franklin and then Haywood County for 60+ years.  He was a son of the late Bert and Oda Eversole Chandler.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Emory, Abner, and Luther Chandler and three sisters, Sarah Jane Hubbard, Lucy Morgan, and Emmaline Chandler.  John was a United States Army veteran and in 1991, he retired from BASF Corporation with 30 years of service.  He loved to carve animals out of wood and gave them away as gifts.  John was a person who loved to stay busy, walking nature trails, gardening, and was inspired by fishing and hunting in Georgia.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Eva Cagle Chandler; sister, Mary Bland Hoover of Union, South Carolina; favorite sister-in-law, Linda Best of Clyde; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 22, 2022 at Long’s Community Cemetery with the Pastor Peter Constantian officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of NC, 1305 Navaho Drive, Suite 101, Raleigh, NC  27609.

The care of Mr. Chandler has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Homes of Canton.
