Jeanne Smathers

Canton – Martha Loujeanne “Jeanne” Stiles Smathers, 90, passed away on Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at Haywood Regional Medical Center.

Jeanne was a native of Athens, Tennessee and a daughter of the late Washington and Nancy Brown Stiles.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth “Lib” Styles; two brothers, Bill and Mack Stiles; and a daughter-in-law, Beverly Dawson Smathers.

Jeanne was an active member of Canton Presbyterian Church.  Throughout her life, Jeanne was a lady that cherished her family.  She especially enjoyed planning and organizing family events.  Jeanne’s profession was centered around antiques.  She had a vast knowledge of antiques and developed a great art for selling them.  She also enjoyed working in her flowers, quilting and handicrafts.  The Christmas Season was special to Jeanne that allowed her to enjoy her collection of Angels and Nativity displays.  Jeanne was a true people person who gave much joy to her family and friends.  We give thanks for her life that was well lived.

She is survived by her husband of 72 years, J. Z. Smathers; one son, Frank “Butch” Smathers and wife, Lisa, of Lay Lake, Alabama; two granddaughters, Mindy Faircloth and husband, Glenn, of Mountain Brook, Alabama and Lisa Smathers of Columbia, South Carolina; and two great-grandchildren, Avery Faircloth and Beckett Faircloth.

A memorial service to honor Jeanne’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 13, 2020 at Canton Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Esta Jarrett officiating.  The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 a.m. prior to the service at the church.
