Canton – James Postell Clark, 89, passed away on Saturday, April 25, 2020 at Silver Bluff Village.

J.P. was born on October 19, 1930, to the late Nathan Granville and Myrtle Jeanette Kiser Clark in Caldwell County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Corpening Hoover Clark, who passed away on February 5, 2015, just short of their 60th wedding anniversary. He is also preceded in death by his youngest daughter, Dawn Clark Ingrum, who passed on Christmas morning, 1991.

He is survived by two daughters, Debbie Allen and her husband, Van, of Canton,  and Donna Stamey and her husband, Greg, of Canton; a son, James “Jim” Clark Jr. and his wife, Greta of Morristown, TN; a son -in-law, Kent Ingrum; a brother, Bob Clark and his wife, Barbara; two nephews, Michael and Richard Clark; a niece, Jody Leber; six grandchildren of whom he was immensely proud; Devan Williams (Derek), Shanna Allen Phillips (Trae), Nathan Stamey (Taylor), Ryan Ingrum (Joan), Zachary Ingrum, Hilary Roberts (Tyler), Brooke Carr (Tyler), James “Trey” Clark, III, and Ciera Clark. Also making him smile, were his six great-grandchildren; Kendall and Abi Williams, Savannah and Peyton Carr, Lily Phillips, and Levi Roberts.

J.P. received his formal education at Lenoir Rhyne College and Hudson High School, where he later taught from 1957-1960. He was an Air Force veteran and  proudly served his country from January 1951-1955. He married Joyce, the love of his life, on November 20, 1955 and they enjoyed many happy years together. J.P. also worked as an insurance adjuster in Ocala, FL and in Asheville, NC before becoming a partner at Patton, Morgan, and Clark Insurance Agency in Canton from 1965-1993. Following retirement, J.P. and Joyce traveled and spent time together at their home at Springdale Country Club. He enjoyed golfing, playing cards, and spending time with his friends and family. He also loved his church, Central United Methodist in Canton.

As everyone has heard JP say, “May my service be short and sweet so no one misses their tee-time!” He is now with his precious daughter, Dawn and his wife, Joyce. He is happy!

The family would like to extend their thanks to all the staff at Silver Bluff Rehab, Arrowhead Cove, and Silverbluff Village for the love and care they gave to J.P.
