James “Jim” L. Mann, Sr.

Canton – James Lewis “Jim” Mann, Sr., 91, passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2022 at his residence.

Jim was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and a son of the late Fonzo Herman and Emma Sue Lewis Mann.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jimmie Mann, who died in 2012. Jim retired from Champion International with 39 years of service and was a member of Plains United Methodist Church.  Jim served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He loved to be outdoors, whether he was hunting, fishing, horseback riding, or camping. Jim also loved to work on his farm.

He is survived by two sons, James Lewis “Butch” Mann, Jr. and Jeffrey Michael Mann, both of Canton; four grandchildren; Nicole Mann and Morgan Rogers (Shawn), Josh Mann and Lacie Scott (Blake); and four great-grandchildren, Remi and Rett Rogers and Dakota and Joseph Scott.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 7, 2022, at Plains United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Reverend David Green officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Plains United Methodist Church Cemetery Trust Fund, 395 Oakmont Drive, Canton, NC  28716.
