Inez Dickson

August 18, 1926 — January 14, 2020

Asheville

Asheville – Inez Rufty Dickson, age 93, died January 14, 2020 after a period of declining health at the Givens Estates in Asheville, North Carolina.

Inez was born August 18, 1926 in Landis, North Carolina to Reverend W.E. and Sarah Rufty.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Edith Rufty.  Living in parsonages of churches her dad served as pastor, she spent most her early life in small towns in Western North Carolina.  Graduating from Micaville High School, her college degree was awarded by Greensboro College.  She received additional credits from Pfeiffer College.

The first four years of her professional career, until her marriage to Harley in 1951 in Asheville, was spent as a Christian Education Director.  She later served as a public-school math teacher in several places where Harley was a local church pastor:  Albemarle, Waynesville, Lexington, Charlotte, and Greensboro.  A tribute to her effectiveness as a teacher came with her initiation into Delta Kappa Gamma, a prestigious international education sorority.  Inez was a master at arranging dinners, picnics, parties, boat outings, or other get togethers.

While she took to her professional responsibilities seriously, family was always at the top of her priority list.  Harley, their two sons Chuck and Kenneth, four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren came first; Inez is also survived by one sister, Jean Rufty.

A service of celebration will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 15, 2020 in the Pulliam Chapel at Givens Estates, 2360 Sweeten Creek Road, Asheville, NC.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Haiti Mission Foundation, 3522 Red Hill Road, Charlottesville, Virginia 22959.
