Heather Hess

March 31, 1977 — July 28, 2022

Raleigh

Raleigh, Heather Leigh Haynes Hess, age 45, passed away on Thursday, July 28, 2022 at Duke University Medical Center after a valiant, extended battle against multiple organ failures as a result of six major surgeries.

A native of Durham County, she was a daughter of Dianne Linton Haynes and the late Dr. Richard "Dick" Haynes.

Heather had a zest for living and a wonderful warm energy about her.  She wore many hats in life – daughter, sister, mom, Christian, loving partner, industrial engineer, marketer, Duke Blue Devil, cook, and occasional comedienne.  Above everything, her two children were the absolute pride and joy of her life.

Heather attended North-Pointe Church in Atlanta and her pastor Reverend Andy Stanley picked her out of 4000 members to head small groups to help the special needs and small children.  She enjoyed handing out blankets to the homeless in Atlanta while she lived there.

In addition to her devoted mother, Heather is survived by her sweet children, Chloe Madison Hess and Aidan Bryan Hess; sister, Lisa Rogers, and her husband, Stephen; her fiancé, Joe Fernandez and family; uncles, Robert (Shirley) Haynes, R. T. (Gretchen) Linton, Jr., and David (Marie) Linton; niece and nephew, Sarah and Matthew Rogers; four cousins, Ronald Scott Haynes (Susan), Candra Linton Tyler (Michael), Jennifer Linton Carvalho (Justin), and Riley Morgan along with numerous other cousins.

A special thank you to Dr. Eric Hauck at Duke University Hospital as well as to the amazing Neuro ICU nurses that took excellent care of Heather and her family.

A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 7, 2022 at First United Methodist Church of Waynesville with Reverend Becky Brown officiating.

The care of Heather has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
