Hazel Summey

Canton – Hazel Ledbetter Summey, 83, passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2020 at Haywood Regional Medical Center.

Hazel was a native of Buncombe County but had resided in Haywood for most of her life and was a daughter of the late Volney and Savannah Sharp Ledbetter.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Edward Summey, who died in 2004, a granddaughter, Tabetha Davis, who died in 2009; and eight siblings.  Hazel was retired from Plus Laundry and a member of the Church of God of Prophecy.  She was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother.  Hazel served as a loyal servant of God as a proud pastor’s wife in service to her husband’s ministry for over 40 years.

She is survived by three daughters, Diane Lowe and Alvin, Darlene Burnette and Bobby, and Linda Pruett and Kenneth, all of Canton; two sons, Michael Summey and Glynis and Dewayne Summey and Nicholas, all of Canton; two sisters, Roselee Brookshire of Canton and Marylee Emory of Marshall; eleven grandchildren; and a numerous number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Considering the current public health situation, a private family graveside service will be held.  Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels, 157 Paragon Parkway, Suite 300, Clyde, NC  28721.
