Hazel Frederick

Canton – Hazel Miller Frederick, 92, passed away on Sunday, February 24, 2019 at Autumn Care of Waynesville.

A native of Haywood County, she was a daughter of the late William and Letha Belle Reece Miller.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Max Frederick; a sister, Jackie Gibson and two brothers, German E. “Nazi” Miller and Clyde Miller.  Hazel had also lived in Fairfield, Ohio, Pasadena, Texas, and Sáo Paulo, Brazil.  Hazel was a graduate of Canton High School, a former member of Morning Star United Methodist Church and current member of Canton Central United Methodist Church.  She was a telephone operator for Southern Bell in Asheville prior to her marriage to CE.  During the years when she raised her family, she participated in PTA, Cub Scout Den Mother, volunteer for President John F. Kennedy’s campaign and was recognized as cook of the month in her local cooking club.  After raising her boys, Hazel served as administrative assistant to the mayor of Fairfield, Ohio.

She is survived by her husband of 70 years, CE Frederick; two sons, Eric Frederick (Sandy) of Mukilteo, Washington and Raoul Frederick (Kathy) of Waynesville; a daughter-in-law, Robin Frederick of Maineville, Ohio; 5 grandchildren, Matt Frederick (Christy), Rachel Thompson (Austin), Brian Frederick (Amanda), Rebecca Frederick and Hunter Frederick; 5 great-grandchildren, Austin, Bela and Grey Frederick and Max and Will Thompson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 1, 2019 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Paul D. Brown officiating.  Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
