Frank Leatherwood

Clyde, Winfred Franklin "Frank" Leatherwood, age 75, of 671 Palmer Pond Road, passed away Friday, May 6, 2011 at St. Joseph Campus of Mission Hospital. A native of Calhoun County, Alabama, he was the son of the late Homer and Ann Tankersley Leatherwood. He was a 1953 graduate of Alexandria High School in Anniston, Alabama and attended San Diego State. Frank was an avid outdoorsman, and he was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy serving on the USS Princeton. He was County Manager for Haywood of the Farm Service Agency (FSA) and became District Director for the FSA from which he retired in 1999. Frank was a Real Estate agent for Apple Realty and also served on the N.C. State Hearing Aid Board. He was an advisor on the Burley Tobacco Buyout Board from 2002 until 2004 and was a member of the NoCASCOE serving in numerous positions during his tenure. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Lynne Palmer Leatherwood, four sons, Bruce A. Trujillo and his wife, Tammie, of Wilmington, NC; Steven Trujillo and his companion, Ann Morefield, of Burlington, NC; Kevin Leatherwood and his wife, Allie, of Wilmington, NC and Tracy Leatherwood of Waynesville and two grandsons, Garrett and Ian Leatherwood. Memorial services will be held at 6:00 p.m. Monday, May 9, 2011 at Crabtree United Methodist Church with Reverend Terry L. Rowland officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:30 p.m. until 5:45 p.m. in the church fellowship hall prior to the service. At other times, the family will be at his mother-in-law, Margaret Palmer's residence, 25 Palmer Pond Road, Clyde, NC 28721.
