Canton – Felma Smith Childers, 91, passed away on Friday, February 19, 2021 at Silver Bluff Assisted Living Arrowhead Cove.

A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, Felma was a daughter of the late Daniel and Laura Haney Smith.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Harold Childers, who died in 2018; four sisters, Wilma Cogburn, Ora Lee Marriott, Willena Rector and Evelyn Fisher; and four brothers, Willard, Frank, John and Robert Smith.  Felma was a member of Sunny Point Baptist Church and will be remembered by many as an employee of Thriftee Discount and Davis’ Clothing.  She enjoyed gardening into her eighties, growing her flowers and canning.  To Felma, nothing was more important to her than her family.

She is survived by a daughter, Sheila Childers Wooten and her husband, Garry, of Canton and a granddaughter, Heather Wooten Vogelbacker and her husband, Scott, of Fort Mill, South Carolina.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at Long’s Community Cemetery with the Reverend Doug Henson officiating.

Due to COVID–19, masks and social distancing will be observed.
