Elaine Simons

February 22, 1941 — November 5, 2022

Alexander – Elaine B. Simons, 81 of Alexander transitioned from this life to her heavenly home with Jesus on November 5, 2022.  A native of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, she was born on February 22, 1941, to the late Otis Ewel and Hazel Pursell Breazeale.  In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her brother, Philip Hardy Breazeale.

Elaine was a successful Realtor in the Asheville area working with many top Real Estate Professionals. Her clients usually ended up being good friends during her 30+ years of service. As a member of Central United Methodist Church, she served on the Altar Guild and as an Usher. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society and the McDonald Clan of the Scottish Society in Montreat, NC.

Because of her deep love for kitties and all animals, she was devoted to rescuing and finding good homes for many stray kitties in our areas in her spare time.

She is survived by her three children: Tamra K. Dawsey of Alexander, NC, Benny Ewel Dawsey and his wife Angela of Albuquerque, NM and Kim Anastasi, and her partner, Yvonne Schaberg of Raleigh, NC; grandsons, Sam and Henry Dawsey of Albuquerque, NM; granddaughter, Ava Anastasi and her partner, Mike Stephens and great-granddaughter, Rowan of Newport, NC. Also survived by her cousins, Ms. Verna Ebbert of Hattiesburg, MS. Michael Cagle of Biloxi, MS along with many beloved friends and clients from Asheville, NC, Gulf Coast Area, MS, Wiggins, MS and Aiken, SC.

It has been a more bearable journey with Elaine these past 12 years by having loving, devoted, and kind caregivers and essential workers from Pisgah Manor Health Care Facility, Candler, NC, Care Partners Hospice, Asheville, NC and a dear friend, CNA, Janet Sawyer, Alexander, NC for taking care of Elaine’s daily needs.  Thank you from our family to every one of you who worked with mother during these difficult times.

Her ashes will be interred during a private memorial service at Woodlawn Park Cemetery in Wiggins, Mississippi. where her parents are buried. Services are being coordinated by Kim Anastasi for a later date.  A portion of her cremated remains will be taken to the west side of Ship Island, a place she loved to visit and catch speckled trout in the blue waves of the Gulf of Mexico.

Finally, Elaine said she would see all of us “OVER THE RAINBOW” again someday!

The care of Ms. Simons has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Candler.
