Edith Cook

Canton – Edith Catherine Cook, 95, passed away on Wednesday, September 21, 2022 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home.

Edith was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and a daughter of the late Perry Herman and Alcie Henson Cook.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Ray Cook, who passed away in 2015; grandson, Chad Buchanan; three sisters, Marie Steppleton, Martha Mease, and Ruby Gibson; and brother, Earl Cook.  Edith was a welcoming woman who enjoyed crafting, bringing laughter and cooking for her family and friends. She was a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church.  Some of her fondest memories were camping at Smokemont and family getaways to the beach.

She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Buchanan (Doug) of Cary and Rhonda Earley of Canton; one brother, Guy Cook of Canton, three grandchildren, Brian Buchanan (Angie), Amanda and Aaron Earley; and two great-grandchildren, Parker and Peyton Buchanan.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00p.m. on Saturday, October 1, 2022 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Matt Rhea and Reverend Ricky Gibson officiating.  Burial will follow at Spring Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
