Dorothy (Dot) Blackwell

January 13, 1931 — November 19, 2021

Boiling Springs, SC

Boiling Springs, SC - Dorothy (Dot) Davis Blackwell, 90, formerly of Canton, NC passed into eternal life surrounded by family members at her home in Boiling Springs, SC on November 19, 2021.

Dorothy was born January 13, 1931 in Hendersonville and was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Margie Davis; her husband of 42 years, J. Oliver Blackwell; and a son Jeffery O. Blackwell.

Dot served on the Vestry and Alter Guild of St. Andrews On the Hill Episcopal Church in Canton.  She was an avid and competitive golfer until her failing health prevented her enjoyment of the game.  Dot routinely beat her husband and son on the golf course.  She enjoyed playing bridge and was a member of several bridge clubs.  Dot especially enjoyed visits with her great grandchildren.

She followed her older sister to elementary school and became upset when sent home, so the teacher allowed her to enroll early.  Dot was a 1948 graduate of Hendersonville High School and was especially proud of receiving an Honorary Degree from NC State University for working and helping her husband, Oliver, attend and graduate from NC State University with an engineering degree. She was a Wolfpack fan until the end.

She is survived by a son, Terry Blackwell and wife, Patricia, of Flat Rock, NC; two daughters, Janet B. Dickens and partner, Tom Shea, of Live Oak, FL and Jo Ann Blackwell of Boiling Springs, SC; a sister, Hester Martin of Moore, SC; and three grandchildren, Hilary Blackwell and partner Chris Hayes, of Mills River, Jennifer B. Schweitzer and husband, Brandon, of Columbus, NC, and John Dickens and wife, Rebecca, of Corvallis, OR; three great grandchildren, Sadie, Ellie, and Callie; and several nieces and a nephew.
