Dorothy Reid

Maggie Valley, Dorothy Smith Reid, age 89, passed away on Sunday, January 19, 2020 at her residence.

A native of Wake County, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Albert Theodore and Helen Lucille Poynter Smith.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Douglas Reid, Sr., who died in 2008; and two brothers, Jack and James Smith.  She was a past employee with Pinellas County, Florida school systems, as a Clerk.  Dorothy was a member of Grace Church in the Mountains and served as Alter Guild and volunteered at the Pantry.  She enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilting and her biggest joy was her family.

Dorothy is survived by a daughter, Nancy Ingram, (David), of Waynesville; three sons, William C. Reid (Sandy), of Largo, Florida; Bob Reid, and Ted Reid (May), all of Maggie Valley; and a special family member, Sally Reid, of Clearwater, Florida; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at Grace Episcopal Church in the Mountains with The Reverend Joslyn Ogden Schaefer officiating.  The family will receive friends following the service at the church.

Memorials may be made to Grace Church in the Mountains, Pantry Fund, 394 N. Haywood Street, Waynesville, NC 28786.

The care of Mrs. Reid has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Homes.
