Dorothy Davis

Waynesville, Dorothy Janes Davis, 95, passed away on Sunday, February 24, 2019 at Ashe Assisted Living in West Jefferson, NC.

A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late William Jefferson and Bonnie Owen Janes.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, D.C. Davis, who died in 1999; four brothers; and three sisters.  Dorothy’s teaching career began at Bethel Elementary School and concluded at Rock Hill Elementary with 38 years as a first-grade teacher.  She was also a faithful servant to her church, Cove Creek Baptist Church for 71 years where she taught Sunday-School for 65 years.  She was a cherished member of the Cove Creek Community, always willing to lend a hand to one in need and also enjoyed quilting and gardening.

Dorothy is survived by two daughters, Judy Davis, and her companion, Phil McMillan, of West Jefferson, North Carolina and Angie Johnson and her husband, C.D., of Waynesville; five grandchildren, Marty Messer, Brad Messer (Amy), Jesse Johnson (Madisson), Josh Johnson (Sami) and Sam Johnson; and six great-grandchildren and another on the way in March.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 3, 2019 at Cove Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Billy Ferguson and Reverend Gary Putnam officiating.  Burial will follow at Davis Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3:00 p.m. prior to services at the church.
