Doris Smathers

Waynesville, Doris Parton Smathers, age 91, passed away on Sunday, July 31, 2022, at Autumn Care of Waynesville.

A native of Haywood County, she was a daughter of the late Dave and Mable Groce Parton.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, O.L. Smathers; son, Randy Lee Noland; four sisters; five brothers; three grandchildren, Melissa, Taft and Lucas; and a great-grandson, Jaxson.  Doris was a member of Crabtree Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school; she enjoyed cooking and traveling.

Doris is survived by a daughter, Phyllis Crawford (Steve); two sons, Wilfred Thomas Noland and Donny Noland; sister, Carolyn Davis; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 3, 2022, in the Canton chapel of Wells Funeral Home with pastor Josh Evans officiating.  Burial will follow at Morning Star Community Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

The care of Mrs. Smathers has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
