Doris Putnam

Canton – Doris Lee Thomason Putnam, 83, passed away on Friday, March 8, 2019 at Haywood Regional Medical Center.

A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Julius and Edna Stroupe Thomason.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harley Putnam, who died in 1992; a daughter, Jann Fisher; one brother, Troy Thomason; and two infant brothers, Clarence and Clinton Thomason.  Doris was a very talented musician who loved to sing gospel music and could play many instruments of which piano was her favorite.

She is survived by one daughter, Rita Guy and son-in-law, Tommy, of Canton; a son-in-law, Jimmie Fisher of Oriental, North Carolina; one brother, James “Buddy” Thomason of Canton; five grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.

A private graveside service was held on Sunday, March 10, 2019 at Piney Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Reverend Wayne Pressley officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Piney Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery Maintenance Fund, 986 Country Club Drive, Canton, N.C.  28716.
