Charles Downs

Canton – Charles Nelson Downs, 76, passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2020 at Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals.

Charles was a native of Cincinnatus, New York and a son of the late Thomas M. and Carolyn Sawyer Downs.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Roxanne Killebrew.  He was a United States Army veteran and a member of Thickety Baptist Church.  Charles was a United States Postal Carrier for 28 years delivering mostly in the Cruso community.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Joyce Fisher Downs; two daughters, Angie Clark of Greenville, South Carolina and Amy Downs of the home; four grandchildren, Rachel, Rebecca, Luke and Seth Clark; one sister, Mary Wemple (Del) of Maryland; and  two brothers, Fred Downs (Mary) of New York and David Downs of Hawaii and a brother-in-law, William Killebrew (Mary) of New York.

A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 19, 2020 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Brent Cochran officiating.  The family will receive friends following the service.

Military honors will be conducted by the United States Army.

Due to Covid-19, social distance will be observed as well as wearing a mask.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gideons International Brevard Camp, P.O. Box 1338, Brevard, NC  28712-1338.
