Charles Williams

Charles David Williams of Waynesville passed away on Friday, April 23, 2021, at the age of 81, at Maggie Valley Nursing & Rehabilitation.

A native of Leesburg, Florida, he was the son of Charlie Cornelius Williams and Eva Lee (Gibbs) Williams.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Shirley Williams; his infant son; his sister, Pat Fulford; and his granddaughter, Abigail Lynn Oliver.

Charles had a long career in the grocery industry as a meat cutter and manager and retired from Winn-Dixie with an impressive 30-plus years of service.  He concluded his meat cutting career with Ingles in Asheville.

Charles was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  Some of Charles' lifetime enjoyments included: fishing, woodworking, riding around in his jeep in the forest and to the beach, boating and water-skiing, shooting and archery, as well as the joy of singing and dancing.

Charles is survived by his two daughters, Cheri White (Brad) of Lady Lake, Florida and Dawn Oliver (Tommy) of Nashville, Indiana; and his sister, Theresa Sorensen (Jerry) of Leesburg, Florida.  Also left to treasure his memory are his five grandchildren: Rachel Whetstone (Brandon), Daven White (Kelsey), Emily White, Dalton Oliver, Tanner Oliver, along with his two great-grandchildren, Payton Stack and Anna Whetstone.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at the Wells Funeral Home in Waynesville, North Carolina.  The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until noon with a service following in the chapel.

The care of Mr. Williams has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
