Carroll Swanger

Waynesville, Carroll Dean Swanger, age 86, passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 2020 at Haywood Regional Medical Center.

A native of Haywood County, he was a son of the late Roy and Melinda Hendrix Swanger.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Vivian Moore.  Carroll was a graduate of Waynesville Township High School and Western Carolina University and proudly served his country in the United States Army.  He resided in Charlotte for 40 years and worked for Washington National Insurance Company for 38 years and was a Deacon of Cornerstone Baptist Church, Charlotte for 20+ years.  After moving back to hometown, Haywood County, he was a member of First Baptist Church of Waynesville.  Carroll enjoyed hunting, and especially his hunting dog, Rusty, as well as fishing, golfing and working in his garden.

Carroll is survived by his wife of 61 years, Patricia Swanger; daughter, Sharon Thurner, and her husband, Andreas; son, David Brian Swanger, and his wife, Traci, all of Charlotte; two brothers, Amon Swanger, of Chattanooga, Tennessee and Jack Swanger, and his wife, Pat, of Waynesville; and four grandchildren, Lindsay and Sydney Swanger and Max and Vivian Thurner.

Private funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church of Waynesville with Rev. Dr. Robert Prince officiating.

The care of Mr. Swanger has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Homes.
