Candler – Billy Eugene DeBord, 95, passed away on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at Pisgah Manor Health Care Center.

Billy was a native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County and a son of the late Nathan and Jenny Selma Pressley DeBord.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Pauline Best DeBord, who died in 2009; sister, Christine Gaudet; and brothers, Joseph and James DeBord; and sons-in-law, David Fitz and Curtis Shoff.  Billy was a United States Navy veteran having served during World War II and he retired from BASF Corporation in 1989 with 42 years of service. He was also a member of Mt. Moriah Wesleyan Church.

He is survived by three daughters, Brenda Fitz of Knoxville, Tennessee, Beverly Holland (Reverend Jack Holland) of Canton, and Diana Shoff of Candler; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at Pisgah View Memorial Park with the Reverend Jack Holland officiating.  Friends may call at Wells Funeral Home in Canton to pay their respects up until 1:00 p.m. prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Four Seasons Hospice (Elizabeth House), 581 South Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC  28731.

The care of Mr. DeBord has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Canton.
